Divergent review

Divergent, the next big thing. if you have not heard about Divergent, you are probably stuck in a remote island and need of rescue.

The movie was action packed, funny, and most importantly, did the books justice. The chemistry between Four (Theo James) and Tris (Shailene Woodley) was out of this world, the casting crew really did a great job choosing them.

I love how divergent did not cram all the events in 90 minutes or so as we see in other Young Adult adaptions, instead they took their time explaining each part and developing the characters which was a major reason in making the movie appealing to the non-readers and adults as well.

The cinematography and editing was very well done. I really liked the costume and set designs for this movie, (CGI’ed Chicago, WOW) and how well they demonstrated the factions. From the wardrobe to their homes, it was incredible and not a single detail was missing.  The soundtrack was AMAZING, every time they played it, I got goosebumps.

The story adaption, even though they did a great job, there were some changes, some would call minor and others are totally pissed off by it.  For example, Uriah not appearing in the first movie pissed a lot of fans off, because he has an important role to play in the sequels, however the director said due to not finding a great actor to portray him, they postponed the introduction of his character to the next movie (Insurgent).

Other changes were how the movie ended, but I found the movie ending more cinematic than the book ending, therefore that is a change I approve. Plus, it gave Jeanine (Kate Winslet) more screen time and no one could hate that ;)!

Overall, the movie was fantastic, I would advise everyone to go see it, having read the book or not, you would enjoy it. To be honest it is way better than I expected. Now we have to wait a whole year for Insurgent 😦

Book your tickets at VOX Cinemas HERE where you can also watch it in 4Dx, haven’t tried that but heard it is amazing.

300: Rise of an Empire review.

The highly anticipated sequel for the original 300 movie is finally here, and this is what I think of it:

300 is one of my favourite movies, the action, the suspense, the plot and of course the gore scenes that makes you jump right of your seat!

The sequel of course as many other sequels, disappointed. As someone mentioned to me, this is labeled as “The sequel syndrome”.

Most of the killing scenes were in slow motion, which wastes a lot of time since A LOT die in this movie.

The villain had been replaced with a tough greek girl that seeks revenge from romans, which plot wise was pretty lame!

The cliché guilt the leader character feels because his actions in the past is there, seriously this has been done over and over again!

The epic fighting scene that you have in the end of the movie failed. It also makes you think that romans are invincible because they seemed to jump from over 100 feets and land unharmed and others jump their horses into the sea for a quick dive and then go back to the normal fighting sequence.  My friend and I were kept mentioning how the parody movie would be like thanks to the director, he made it a lot easier for us.

Speaking of how the movie ended, it was very incomplete, it hints that there will be another (hopefully better) 300 movie!

Anyways, this movie could have went a whole lot better, if you’re a Spartan (300 fan) don’t let this review to stop you from enjoying the movie, you still can.

Final ‘Harry Potter’ Smashes Single-Day Record with $92.1M !!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” smashed the record for the largest single-day gross with a $92.1 million haul on Friday, according to studio estimates.  The previous record-holder, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” grossed $72.7 million.  Barring a continent-wide carmageddon the final film in the mega-grossing franchise will bank north of $190 million this weekend and set a new high-water mark for domestic debuts.  That will easily unseat “The Dark Knight” and its $158.4 million debut  as the biggest stateside bow in box office history.
